Emser Tile stands as the foremost designer and marketer of the world's premier tile and natural stone products. Emser Tile is a distinguished client of Circular Edge, leveraging a suite of advanced products including E1 9.1 TR 9.1.5.9, RFGen, and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne MAF.

Four branches have successfully transitioned to the new mobile application, receiving positive user feedback. The customer has implemented a digital E1 process, proving operational efficiency compared to their manual processes and the existing RFGen cycle count system in distribution centers. Operationally, costs have decreased as the E1 mobile application incurs no additional licensing costs, unlike RFGen with its associated fees. The customer plans to conduct a pilot rollout, gathering feedback to refine operational processes before extending the implementation to over 50 branches across the United States. Currently, we are addressing solution design based on specific feedback items.

Challenges

  • Emser uses RFGen for cycle count process in their distribution centers. They chose E1 mobile app instead of RFGen for their branches, since usage of RFGen cycle count at their 50+ branches would have been very expensive in terms of licensing and other costs

Business Requirements

  • Business drivers include – Cycle count process was involving a lot of manual steps, scope of discrepancies was more due to higher manual touchpoints, freeze time during the cycle count process was higher, count process was not leveraging the barcodes of inventory.
  • Goal was to meet above mentioned business requirements, have a process in place that is operationally more efficient than their existing RFGen cycle count process & from an operational expense point of view, have reduced costs with more accuracy and capabilities.

Customer Benefits

  • With usage of new cycle count mobile application, operations team controlling the inventory can now update the counts in real time, from the branch location where they are performing the count. Prior to this, they used to print the cycle count sheet from JDE E1 and then go to the branch location for counting, manually record the count on the cycle count sheet, come back to their to workstation in order to enter to the cycle count update in JDE E1 web application.
  • Moreover, E1 Cycle Count Mobile App that Circular Edge has developed for the customer has more features and capabilities compared to their existing RFGen cycle count

Lessons Learned

  • 4 branches are now live on new mobile application with positive feedback from users.
  • Customer has a digital E1 process in place that is operationally more efficient than their existing manual process as well as their existing RFGen cycle count process that they use at their distribution centers.
  • From an operational expense point of view, customer has reduced costs since there is no additional licensing cost to pay for E1 mobile application (as against RFGen that charges licensing fee and other costs)
  • Customer is planning to use this as a pilot roll out to collect feedback and define more practical processes for their operations before they start rolling this out to their remaining 50+ branches across the US. We are working on solution design for a couple of feedback items.
